The Reserve Bank Of Australia has had in place a program since 2007 to upgrade the security of Australia's banknotes. Costs so far are around $9.3 million.
The upgraded banknotes will incorporate a number of new features that will mean Australia's banknotes will remain secure into the future. Some design changes will be made to accommodate the new security features.
The Bank will soon be consulting the Vending Industry to ensure that Australia's banknotes continue to meet community needs.
It seems at this stage that the new notes will be introduced in 2016.
This should create a lot of jobs upgrading the millions of Note Readers currently is use in Vending Machines around the country.
More on this as more news comes to hand but you can check out the new designs at this link
